I grew up in Marrakesh watching tourists pay triple for the same tagine I eat every week for 20 dirhams. That gap — between what Morocco really costs and what visitors actually pay — is exactly what DirhamDrifter is here to close.
My story
I'm Yassine, born and raised in Marrakesh. I've spent years navigating the medinas, riads, CTM buses, and desert tracks that make up this country — not as a tourist, but as someone who actually lives here.
A few years ago, a friend visited from abroad. Watching him overpay for a taxi, struggle to understand the bus system, and eat at a tourist restaurant ten steps from a street stall serving better food at a fraction of the price — I realised the gap between "traveller's Morocco" and "real Morocco" was enormous.
So I started writing it all down. Not polished travel brochure content. The actual prices. The real routes. The local tricks that no guidebook bothers to mention because they don't benefit hotels or tour companies.
Every article on this site is built on personal experience — streets I've walked, buses I've taken, medinas I've bargained in. If I say something costs 15 MAD, I mean I paid 15 MAD for it last month.
